taxiflow
Taxi Flow is a little scraping project, in which I monitored the position data of taxis in different cities for one week in October 2012. The datasource was a popular taxi ordering website.
The data was extracted via Python and stored in a PostGIS database. The graphical representation shows the speeds driven. The maps, charts and and videos were created with QGIS and VirtualDub.
The video captures the rhythm in which the taxis flow through the city. Especcially the congested streets during rush hours are clearly visible.
Animation
A small animation of the dataset using QGIS and the TimeManager-plugin.
City Heart Beats
I compared the average speed between three different cities. It is interesting to see that the overall rhythm is quite similar to each other.
